John Ashby, M.D. was born in Philadelphia, PA and attended the Central High School of Philadelphia.
 
He completed undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan,  earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education.
 
He worked as a professional musician for about 10 years before attending medical school.
 
He received his medical education and training at the Temple University School of Medicine, earning the degree of medical doctor.
 
He then completed a program of General Internship at the Frankford Hospital of Philadelphia (now a branch of Jefferson Hospital).
 
He then underwent medical specialty training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Temple University Hospital.
 
Dr, Ashby is particularly interested in therapeutic exercise performed on a regular basis in order to achieve and maintain optimum states of health, including core strengthening of abdominal muscles to stabilize the spine and reduce low back pain as well as range of motion (active stretching of muscles) to improve blood circulation and general aerobic conditioning to improve maximum oxygen consumption.
 
He is a strong advocate of balance and stability training on a regular basis in order to prevent falls in the elderly and to promote healthy aging.
 
He prioritizes patient education and communication to patients of the underlying pathology of the particular muscle and nerve injury identified in the nerve study.
 
He also strives to minimize patient discomfort during administration of nerve studies and injections.
